Hi all,

I've have 10.2.0.1 Windows 2003 client, I need to install Oracle client on Vista. Is it okay to use the Oracle 10g Client (32 bit)client on Vista?? I just tried installing and it went through fine. But I'm concerned if there will be any future problems. Please give me your thoughts.

Thank you.

The Oracle Certification Matrix states:

"Do not use Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.1) to install the database on Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008."

So I would recommend installing 10.2.0.3 client.

Thanks, Ebrian.

To download 10.2.0.3 client, do I have to look out for Windows Vista or I can just download the regular Oracle 10.2.0.3 for Windows client ?

Thanks for your help.

Thanks. I downloaded and to install on the vista server, when I click on \install\OUI, I get this error message:

The file oraparam.ini is missing, hence the Oracle Universal Installer cannot be run.

But when I run it on my local pc, I'm able to open the OUI.

Any suggestions??

Thanks again.

Don't really know what could be causing that. You may want to verify the checksum of the file and also verify the environment and privileges on the server.

Okay. Initially I ran the setup from a shared drive, now I copied the install files to the local drive on Vista and I ran OUI. It ran fine until the last step where I click on Install.
After I click on Install, the OUI screen just disappears and I only see Inventory folder in Oracle\product\10.2.0\Client_1.

Did anyone face this problem?? Also, in the documentation in this installation files, I see this:

Quote:
Operating System
Oracle Database for 32-bit Windows is supported on the following operating systems:

Windows 2000 with service pack 1 or later. All editions, including Terminal Services and Microsoft Windows 2000 MultiLanguage Edition (MLE), are supported.

Windows Server 2003 - all editions

Windows XP Professional

Windows NT is not supported.

Windows Multilingual User Interface Pack is supported on Windows XP Professional and Windows Server 2003.

But on the zip file says Vista. 10203_vista_w2k8_x86_production_client

I'm confused. Please help me with your thoughts. Thank you.
