I would first try to create ASM manually (without using DBCA).
And there should be more information available from alert logs/trace files.

Thanks.

Is there any way to create asm instance in RAC environment manually?

Yes.
Though, i have not myself done it for a fresh install. Used the same concept to add a node to existing cluster.
ASM is just a volume manager.
Create ASM instance on every participating node.
Make sure it is aware of multiple ASM instances (in init.ora)
Mount them individually.
When you invoke DBCA for database installation, it will be detected automatically.
If you have an existing RAC installation,
just copy the init.ora for ASM from there and edit the contents.

Third hit from Google search got me here.
Seems it gives some information to start with.

http://books.google.com/books?id=GjYTbJTIr54C&pg=PA210&lpg=PA210&dq=create+asm+instance+manually+rac&source=bl&ot s=h9iqxZDX09&sig=3rtFbenAqKasURiu__bYWWnf4Cg&hl=en&ei=9sAMSuCAIIGitweh3fj4Bw&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&am p;am p;resnum=3#PPA211,M1

Meanwhile,
If this is for something serious usage, I would raise a tar.
It is not worth going through pain.

Since you are doing in VM, I assume this for your learning.
If so, playing around won't hurt Smile.

Edit:
Hope the google books page will be still available for you Wink.

Thanks.

I trouble shoot this problem. Problem due to VMware cluster configuration missing.
