Sir/Madam
I am an Oracle Developer from Pakistan.
I have worked in Devloper 2000 and Oracle 7 & 8.
Now I am facing the problem to connect Developer 6i and Oracle 8i.
My pc is p3 and os is windows xp.
First I have installed developer 6i then Oracle 8i in seperate homes.
The Developer forms are not connecting with Oracle 8i.
Kindly solve my problem.

Please excuse the terse response.

Forms will use the tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora files in your forms home, instead of the one in your 8i database home.

hi,
Oracle Database and Developer need to be installed in different homes.
If you people are able to connect Oracle Database from SQL*Plus and are not able to connect from Forms then check this post here.
http://www.orafaq.com/forum/m/124914/67693/#msg_124914
It's for Database 9i, but same solution should work for 8i.
If you even can't connect to your database from SQL*Plus then your database is not installed properly.
You'll have to install the database again in this case.

Regards.

hi Sonia
I have installed both oracle and developer 6i in the same drive but in different folders

Connection is simple and easy

Copy the tnsname.ora file from the oracle 9i folder and save it on some other location as a backup

Copy the tnsnames.ora file from the developer folder and save it also on some other location as a backup

Paste the Developer tnsnames.ora file into the Oracle Tnsnames.ora and save it

If you are still facing problems, don’t hesitate to reply
