A problem we've discovered in the way that Oracle 11i Assets calculates accumulated amortization for child assets. For selected asset categories, the child asset should be assigned a useful life according to the remaining useful life of the parent asset at the time that the child asset is placed in service.
For purposes of calculating the accumulated amortization for the child asset, the remaining useful life of the parent asset would be used. However, in practice we have observed that Oracle 11i Assets calculates the accumulated amortization for the child asset based on the full life of the asset category
to which the child asset belongs.
