Hi,

I have to install 10g in the same server, which has a few 9i instances, and I am new to 10g. while going through the installation manual , there is a requirement that:

"Verify that the host name has been set by using the hostname command as follows:

# hostname

The output of this command should be similar to the following:

myhost.mycomputer.com"

However, in my system, it is not a fully qualified domain name like this, its output is like
"myhost". How to change this, and if I change this, can it affect the connectivity to the server or the existing 9i installations?

Thanks,
Nirav

yes if your change your hostname it will effects yoyr other databases,if in listener.ora and tnsnames.ora your speicfied the hostname, but if you specified the ip then it would not.
