The current OraFAQ sponsor popup is a bit ... well ... "saucy" for surfing the forum at work.

Any chance of restricting the popup sponsors to just wholesome technology-based ads?

What kind of browser do you use? Does it not have the "block unwanted pop-up" option (Opera, for example, has it).

/forum/fa/2737/0/

I don't even remember when I last saw a pop-up.

But there's another thing that bothers me - awfully slow response from the OraFAQ Forum pages for the last 2 days. I have to reload then several times in order to display their contents; the same goes for posting. Other internet pages open normally. Is it something on my side or OraFAQ server side? Does everything work fine for you?

1/ I use IE6 and 7 and even with ad blocker the window pops up from time to time.

2/ This is not only for the last 2 days. It happens to me almost each day. Maybe something like writers block readers and vice versa.

Michel

I don't think we should promote ways to block adverts that keep this site going. If you block the ads, fine, but don't advise others how to do it.

These ads are no fun, but without them, this site will have to run on far less capable hardware. I'm sure you will agree that ads on OraFAQ is less intrusive than competitor sites. That said, I will try to see where the popups are coming from. If they do not significantly contribute to the bottom line, I'll try to get them removed.

I understand that pop-ups help OraFAQ being what it is. However, saucy ones are to be considered as unwanted. And blocking them at work is one way to get rid of them (until Frank Naude (possibly) finds another way).

I concur with Michel: it seems to get around the IE7 blocker functionality. I allow popups from the site because I don't like typing the URL tags in messages longhand.
I don't object to existence of the popups - just the unprofessional content.

The pop-under ads were disabled - might need to enable them later again. Will reevaluate the situation after a couple of days...
