I am running reports 6i.

I run a query with a UNION in pl/sql developer and the queries executes within a minute. I cut and paste the same query into reports and it takes over 10 minutes. Fiddled with the order by fields and still no improvement.

Thanks

Check out which part of the execution is holding up your report.

It might not be your SQL Code but conditional formatting in Reports which you do. Are you fetching data from remote servers? That could also slow the execution.

No remote servers and no conditional formatting with triggers.

However I noticed if the report is in tabular format it runs in under 5 min but as soon as I change it to a multiple break report it impacts on the performance.

Open your report in report builder
TOOLS----->Trace
specify here trace file and trace mode
Also check trace options according to your report
You will come to know each module in report getting how much time..
Then u can tune your report easily i think...
